I teach mental health therapists in private practice

How to build better brands and create aligned copy for their dream clients and business

Marketing your private practice doesn’t have to be the hellscape it currently feels like.

You started a private practice to build a life of freedom, work on your terms, and do the clinical work you love, without getting caught forever in the soul-suck of agency life.

But, here you are.

  • You’re spinning your wheels, stuck in overthinking mode about your directory profiles and why they’re not getting people to call you.

  • You spent weeks building your website, you were so proud of figuring out all the tech-y things, but you can’t figure out why it’s only resulted in crickets, instead of calls.

  • Or better yet - you don’t have a website, but you know you both want and need one. Where in the hell to start, though… it’s so overwhelming, so you just keep avoiding it.

  • You know what you ‘do’ with your clients, but when people ask you about it, you have no idea how to explain it in a simple, short way. So, you tell people what you do, only to be met with confused stares that leave you feeling embarrassed and small.

  • You’ve tried to network and market your business, but it seems like all your efforts just keep falling flat.

  • Social media… it’s just too much to even think about where to start.

  • You know who you love to work with, but you’re terrified about actually declaring a niche because you’re afraid of possibly limiting yourself.

As that list has kept growing, your imposter syndrome has grown to the point of chaos, wrecking your mindset, your dreams, and leaving you questioning whether you can actually do this.

Eff that.

Your business matters.

Your clinical work matters.

Your dreams matter.

And most importantly -

You matter.

Managing and marketing your business doesn’t have to be torturous. You just have to know how to identify the pieces you’re missing, and fill in the gaps. That’s where I come in.

Building a successful private practice isn’t just about getting a LLC set up and throwing a Psychology Today profile out into the world. It’s not just networking and creating referral relationships, or deciding to go in-network or be private pay. It’s not about saying yes to every person who calls you for help - that’s how you’re gonna recreate your agency life, bestie.

Building a successful business - especially a successful private practice - must begin with building a proper foundation for the business to be supported by. And that’s where getting your mindset squared away, along with really curating your branding and copywriting come in.

Being a successful business owner is simple - not easy.

There’s a lot to learn and understand, it can be really overwhelming, and leave you feeling like you’ve taken on trying to climb your own personal Mt. Everest. It can be isolating, leaving you frustrated and discouraged, feeling like you’re working so incredibly hard but not seeing the results you’re hoping for.

Let’s fix it, shall we?

We need to go back to the beginning, as a team, and really get your mindset squared away first. You’re not ‘just’ a therapist anymore - you’re now a small business owner of a private psychotherapy practice, and it’s important to prioritize developing your entrepreneurial mindset. (Which is super, super different than your clinical, therapist mindset.) You’re a badass, brave, brilliant clinician AND person who took a leap of faith into the land of the unknown, and you deserve to experience the success - in real time - that you’ve imagined. You believed in yourself when you started this. The unknown may have given you a right hook to the chin and knocked you down, but with the right support, you are more than capable of getting back up and taking control again.

From there - we get to work!

In order to build the business you’ve dreamt of, you need two things

  • Building a brand isn’t just grabbing a quick logo, half-assing a website, and telling people you’re open for business. If you’re doing that, you don’t have a brand. You have a hobby. (Sorry/not sorry.)

Branding properly is the process of creating both your brand identity, and your brand positioning.

Your brand identity is the entire personality of your brand, from aesthetics, to brand voice, identifying your ideal client, developing your niche, building your brand values, purpose, and mission, building your business structure, and more.

On the flip side, your brand positioning is everything you do to get your ideal client to actually see your brand. This includes your social media use, networking with other professionals, community events you participate in, trainings you offer, running Google ads, groups you participate in, attending conferences or specialty events for your niche, products you create for your audience, and more.

A well done brand is the foundation to all successful businesses, and is non-negotiable.

  • Let’s face it - copywriting is something that just straight up freaks us therapists out. It’s practically beaten into all of us in grad school that there’s only one ‘right way’ to write, and that’s in perfect APA format. Right?! Wrong. So, so wrong.

Writing compelling content that connects with your ideal client must start with really understanding not only who you are as a person, therapist, and entrepreneur, but also with understanding who it is you’re speaking to. It’s important to write the same way you speak, not only to support brand consistency, but also so that you begin the process of building an emotional connection with your ideal client through your writing.

Your ideal client doesn’t care about what you know or where you went to school. They don’t care about how many fancy letters you have after your name, how how vigilantly you’ve followed APA format for all your grad school papers, or what you can teach them through your website.

They care about and connect with how you make them feel, and how you can help them produce results.

And that connection, my friend, is created through your content.

‘But Kelly, what if I just can’t understand branding?’

‘What if I’m not a good writer?’

Listen, I get it.

Once upon a time, I didn’t understand it either. And that frustrated the hell outta me. So, I waded into the weeds, got lost in them, and figured it out. I want to help you shorten that learning curve, not get lost in the weeds, and feel confident in your ability to step out into the wide open space of the entrepreneurial world, knowing that you have a brand you love, with copy that kicks ass.

You do not have to be a branding expert in order to create an exceptional brand for yourself.

You do not have to be a kickass writer in order to be a kickass copywriter.

This is about engaging in your creativity, remembering how to be playful in the way you show up to running your business, and be absolutely authentic in the process of it all. (And also - knowing which rules to break from time to time, and being willing to actually break them. It’s fun. I promise - and I’ll show you how.)

I’ve packaged up my branding and copywriting systems into a series of building blocks that are simplified, manageable, and actionable - and it’s created specifically for driven therapists like you.

If this sounds like everything you’ve been wanting and looking for - read on to see your options in how you can invest in yourself, and the work we can do together.

I can’t wait to meet you, and see how much fun we have in building your brand and revealing
what an incredible copywriter you already are!
